National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Internships

The National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES)-NAEP and ETS-NAEP have collaborated to offer summer internship opportunities with ETS Research.

Join us in our mission-driven efforts and work on the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas.

These internships provide undergraduate or graduate level students from historically underrepresented backgrounds with an opportunity to work on a business-driven research project in one of the key areas within the NAEP program:

  • Psychometrics and Data Analysis
  • Assessment Design and Development
  • Survey Instrument Design

As part of our 2023 Summer internship experience, you’ll work virtually and in person (the first and last week of the program), for an 8-week period on a business research project and will be paired with an ETS R&D NAEP staff member who will serve as their mentor.

Since our program is designed to expose students to careers in our field, you'll also receive learning and professional development experiences that include, but are not limited to:

  • individual professional mentoring/coaching
  • weekly research seminars led by experts in the fields of research, measurement, psychometrics and statistics
  • exposure to connect and learn from leaders across NCES-NAEP
  • professional presentation opportunities and exposure to opportunities for future full-time employment in ETS-NAEP

You can apply for one of the two NAEP internships below.

Note: In a given year, you may apply to only one of the RMS, ETS® AI Labs™ or NAEP internship programs. Please apply to the internship program that best fits with your qualifications and research interests.
